The Ptarmigan Fund brings together scholars from religious studies, as well as from related fields such as classics, philosophy, history, and art history, to share perspectives on religion, philosophy and culture during the period of Late Antiquity.

Hosted by the Department of Religious Studies, the Ptarmigan Fund facilitates the in-depth exploration of the history of late antiquity and the religious traditions that emerged during this time. The Fund particularly focuses on supporting Ph.D. research in the field of late antique studies as well as public outreach, both to the Stanford community and beyond. It primarily does so through additional training and professionalization of graduate students, an annual public lecture series, multi-hour and multi-day workshops, five virtual lectures every year, readings groups, and the development of research and teaching tools for the field of late antique studies.
